Happy New Year!
The holidays this year have been very busy; between entertaining guests, making interesting Dr. Bronner's soap concoctions - which are invariably confiscated at EU customs - visiting friends and dealing with the aftermath of Dublin, I've haven't had a moment to write.
I have a single New Year's resolution which I intend to keep: to get all the photos from my various wanderings online. And to update all my previous posts with links. Which will actually get done because I intend to do it this evening. Everything else, eh, who knows?
Ben and I started the year off on the Marin Headlands, watching the fireworks display over the Golden Gate Bridge. As we walked up the hill back toward our car, Ben told me about a photograph he'd recently seen of San Francisco right after the 1906 earthquake; "you could see that the city was well established, but there was nothing in this area over here," he said. I have trouble imagining the coastline without it, and pondered what the earliest people here thought of their surroundings.
Happy New Year to all my friends and loved ones, and for those not celebrating their new year now, please take the well-wishings now in case I neglect to offer them later.
